Google TV Hardware

Google TV Hardware

Google TV isn’t a TV channel or a special brand of television set, it is a software platform which manufacturers of TV equipment can  install onto their products and peripherals such as set top boxes. Google TV makes it possible to surf the web on your television set – how cool is that?

Google TV is based on their Android platform, but unlike the Android phones it actually uses Google Chrome as a browser and also supports Flash. Those helpful chaps at Google have laid out the general hardware specifications so that manufacturers can bundle Google TV onto their own list of products:

  • MPEG-4 Support
  • HDMI
  • 3D Graphics
  • Intel Atom CE4100 (which can decode a dual 1080p video stream)
  • Bluetooth and WiFi

Interestingly, you’ll also be able to use your Android phone as the television control, in case you can’t be bothered (or can’t find) the real one! Pretty clever stuff huh?
